What Are Ley Lines
Old Straight Tracks
Ley lines are seemingly blamed for all our ills, they have been cited in court cases, UFO’s use them as landing sites, strange lights are often seen hovering above, or close to them, and crop circles are built on them. But what are ley lines and are they really that harmful to us?
Ley is an Anglo-Saxon word, meaning ‘a cleared strip of ground’ and there are many villages and towns in Britain that have ley in their names, such as Darley in North Yorkshire, Leyland in Lancashire, Crawley in West Sussex and Didley in Watkins home county of Herefordshire.
Alfred Watkins, arguably the Godfather of ley lines, only used this term for a few years, before discarding it in favour of ‘old straight tracks’ – the title of his book, published in 1925. These tracks ran from hilltop to hilltop, passing through churches, way points, marker and standing stones, henges, hill temples (forts) and a myriad of other places of interest.
Lines of Natural Energy
It wasn’t until the 1960s, at the start of the ‘new age’ movement, that ley lines returned to public attention. John Michell’s seminal book The View Over Atlantis introduced us to the Michael Ley that runs from Cornwall to the Norfolk coast, through some of the most famous megalithic monuments in the South of England.
There are two schools of thought; one states that leys are purely lines of natural energy, the other that they are purposely placed and created by man for ceremonial purposes – such as the Nazca lines in Peru.
We consider that they are lines created by human intent, often set up by the village Shaman or holy man, guiding people from one sacred or holy site to another.
Detrimental Emotional Energies
Like a sheep path, they do have a dowsable energy, mainly caused by people using them over many years, their emotional imprint and energy is indelibly stamped onto the earth.
It is this emotional imprint that can cause us humans and our pets’ problems. Imagine these leys are like telephone lines, they transmit information along them, good information as well as bad. These lines stretch for many miles and contain a lot of detrimental emotional energies. As they pass through a sacred site, they will pick up on all the thoughts and actions left there.
Sacred and holy sites are often where people go to sit quietly or to release their pent-up emotions. These dark emotions stay within the ley.
What We Do
They are dealt with in a similar way to earth energy lines, harmonising rather than diverting. They contain both earth energies and human emotion, because of the holy places and sacred sites through which they run.
